Augusta: We invite a PEDIATRIC HOSPITALIST to join a team of 4 specialists (and several per diem pediatricians) caring for inpatients in Maine’s newest hospital – a state-of-the-art 190-bed regional medical center in the state capital city, just 50 minutes from Portland. Pediatric Hospitalists here provide high quality care for newborns (including well-newborns, Level II NICU and delivery attendance) and pediatric inpatients. They also provide emergency department consults. Interested candidates should be prepared to handle neonatal resuscitation and newborn care / stabilization of critically ill newborns while awaiting transfer to a tertiary care center (the nearest of which is in Portland). This is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The average daily census is just 4-6 inpatients, so you can look forward to providing in-depth care for your patients and their families. You will be supported by OB/GYNs, midwives, anesthesia personnel, emergency medicine providers and family practice physicians. Pediatric subspecialists and NICU/PICU support is provided by phone from the state’s two children's hospitals. This medical center is also home to an unopposed Family Medicine Residency Program (affiliated with Dartmouth) and hosts rotating medical students. 1-2 learners are typically part of the team on weekdays, so teaching will be an important part of your routine. Enjoy a flexible schedule with 12- or 24-hour shifts available (full time is just 13 12-hour shifts/month). Join a very family-friendly group of pediatric hospitalists who support each another as they seek a terrific work/life balance. You will be employed by the hospital and earn a competitive salary based on experience along with benefits that include relocation assistance, a generous amount of earned time off, insurance (liability with tail coverage, medical, dental, vision, life, disability), paid leave with a budget for your CME, a choice of pension plans with employer matching, and more. Generous, multiyear medical education loan repayment is also available. You will see urgent care type visits, acute illnesses, newborn weight checks and more – treating the patients while educating and providing reassurance to the parents. Other encounters will be for primary care, chronic issues, well-visits/physicals, etc. You will not have your own patient panel – you will collaborate with and support other providers, including seeing their patients during vacations or absences.
