Maine

Lewiston:  We invite a talented Nephrologist to join a thriving private practice in Maine’s second largest city, just 40 minutes from Portland. This respected group enjoys referrals from numerous primary care physicians across the region – and continued growth has prompted them to add an additional associate. New or experienced specialists are welcome.

Physicians requiring J1 or H1b visa support are encouraged to apply.

You will join four Nephrologists and two NPs practicing in Maine’s third largest hospital – a 250-bed academic medical center, site of an unopposed family medicine residency program and an active heart and vascular institute. Hospitalists take care of all inpatients here. Enjoy a convenient 4 day/week schedule with an interesting practice mix that includes inpatient consults (call is shared 1:5), providing care in the outpatient clinic, and helping cover six busy Dialysis Units. This practice is also developing an impressive home therapies program. Become part of a welcoming, collegial team supported by an experienced clinical / administrative staff.

You will earn a competitive salary plus benefits including paid relocation assistance, paid liability insurance, health and dental insurance, plenty of paid time off for vacations plus paid holidays, an expense budget for your CME, and more. A retirement plan with profit sharing is added after one year. A partnership track is available for a successful physician. Details will be shared with qualified candidates.

Lewiston and it’s “across the river” neighbor Auburn are home to 120,000 residents, comprising one of Maine’s largest and most diverse population centers. This bustling community offers dozens of local dining options, from chain restaurants to unique homegrown eateries, diners, ethnic restaurants and wonderful seafood places. Enjoy shopping in specialty boutiques, numerous big-box stores, and shopping malls too. The local arts scene is broad, and includes an active live-stage community, movie theaters, and several flavors of easily-accessible live music too.

Maine’s four-season climate and diverse geography support many recreational pursuits. Enjoy local trails for hiking and biking, and lakes and streams for casual fishing, kayaking and sailing. Golf is very popular, with over a dozen nearby courses from which to choose. A short drive leads to some of Maine's top ski resorts – and Lost Valley in Auburn is a fun and friendly local ski facility. Winter sports also include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and snow-shoeing. Lewiston hosts a huge, family-friendly Balloon Festival that draws thousands to the downtown park near the famous waterfalls on the Androscoggin River every summer. Bates College in Lewiston is New England's first (and longest enduring) coeducational college, ranked as a “Best Liberal Arts College” and “Best Value in America.” Bates draws students from nearly every state and over 60 countries, regularly receiving 10 times more applications than they have freshman slots.

Residential opportunities abound in this area. You might choose a home in town, or among several nearby or Portland suburbs, on a local lake or river, or in the country, just minutes outside of town. You will find many welcoming neighborhoods with excellent public and private schools.

Nearby Portland is easily accessible from Lewiston. One of the most desirable cities in New England, this harbor town has a buzzing social scene centered in the popular Old Port district. With literally hundreds of restaurants, Portland is a renown “foodie” city, winning multiple awards for quality eateries and the diversity of their offerings. The International Jetport is convenient and serves several major and discount airlines. Portland hosts a trio of semipro sports teams, plus numerous museums, the state’s largest mall, a symphony orchestra, and a busy harbor, too, with ferry service to several nearby islands. All these amenities are in easy reach.
